I have a Ford Econeline Van, 1989, 302 engine, 5.0 liter.Anyway, lately I have been hearing my engine missing.I just had a tune up in May of 2006, well I took my van to emissions and it failed for the first time since I’ve had it.I have had it five years.I think the mechanic did not gap a plug right? I am a female, yes I know about engines and all. After all my dad was a mechanic for 49 years. But the main question, I am asking does this vehicle have a brain box or computer in it? Need answers like two days ago?

Silent Suicide asked:
I was driving my 98′ Ford Windstar van and it just died as if I had turned it off. It still got power but the engine stopped. When it died it didn’t make any noise what-so-ever and I was still able to control it enough to coast through the light and pull it off the road. I checked all of the fluids and they were full. I replaced the battery with a brand new one that was actually a bit stronger than the one I previously had. anyways. I finally got a chance to take it to a mechanic and they said the engine is locek up and it’ll cost almost 1,700 with labor. All of my friends said this doesn’t sound right especially since the van has less than 100,000 miles on it and the only previous owner was a buisiness. Not to mentiong the fluids were full and it didn’t make any noise. When I turn the key now, nothing happens. Any advice?

I’ve got a problem with a used 1998 Ford Econoline e150 van I just bought. The heater puts out plenty of heat but none of the heater functions work except “defrost”. I assumed that meant a vacuum problem so I pulled the dash. The heater function switch had an open ****** at the top middle. All of the other ******* had vacuum lines attached and all went into a bundle that disappeared behind the ducts. However I could find no unattached hose. So here are my questions:
1. Is the open ****** the vacuum supply?
2. Since the hoses appear to be color-coded, what color is the vaccum supply hose?
3. Where would I look for the missing vacuum hose, both in the dash and on the engine?
4. Or am I all wet and the problem is something else?
